2nd XI division four
13th May 2006
Today another landmark was reached for Ploughman’s CC as they field a Second Eleven in the League for the first time. Unfortunately we would not see Ploughman’s end in victory on this historic day.
Cox won the toss and elected to bat. Khan (welcome back again Nasser) and Gledhill opened the batting. Khan was unable to get in his stride and was out caught behind for 0. Enter Pred Basic a new addition to our squad, he formed a great partnership with Paddy putting on 116 runs for the 2nd wicket partnership. Pred moved on swiftly to his maiden 50 with good support from Paddy. Pred finally finished on 78 before being caught at long off going for a big 6. Not much more to say about the batting as paddy went on to make 33 and the rest only managed 12 runs between the remaining 8 wickets. Ploughman’s finished on 151 on an overcast Saturday afternoon from 48 overs.
Willden and Fenech opened the bowling with Fenech making an early break through having Persaud caught at mid wicket courtesy of a juggling Jackko. Glaxo’s Chanda decided he didn’t want to be out to late on Saturday and started to smake the ball all around Warren Farm befor being stumped by Paddy for 67 off the bowling of spin king Peters who bowled well finishing on 3 for 28 from 5.5 overs. With the middle order of Glaxo all contributing to the cause Ploughman’s bowlers did not have to much to offer and Glaxo reached their target from just 27 overs.
Despite the loss on this historic day all the signs are there for a very promising season ahead. Well done and thank you to all those involved in the recruitment drive and to all the new and old members of PCC who make all of this possible.
