PCC vs Mutkajivan (home)

2nd XI division four
9th September 2006

Having departed company with Broadfields we found ourselves playing our last “home” game of the season at Peshwas ground in Tentelow Lane just a big 6 from our previous home ground of many years Warren Farm and a quick single from our former hosts at The Plough.

Against a very young Muktajavin side we were put into bat and were soon in trouble.
5 for 1 became 5 for 2 which in turn became 6 for 3 which saw El Bandito with the TIE. McEvoy (13) and Jacko (6) somewhat steadied the ship. Enter Big Ben Brown and the Tigerish Pete Fenech who pushed the score on nicely. After some big hitting from BBB who ended with 30 Fenech was fast approaching his Fifty but was running out of partners fortunately for the rest of the team but not for Pete he holed out on 48. With the oppo changing wicket keepers due to injury extras saw a return of 48 giving us a total of 154 to bowl at.

Having seen the run maker Pramod from our previous encounter opening the bat the call from the skipper was if we get him cheaply we will win this one. To say he was riding his luck this time would be an under statement. He was dropped to a very hard chance at Gully by Peters before a run was on the board, dropped another 3 times and with the bowlers missing his wicket by a whisker as he walked down the wicket to hit the ball to the boundary with every ball he faced he was finally out to a good catch from Jacko off the bowling of H. Unfortunately Will was not having the best of days at the other end and changes were made with the introduction of Peters and your correspondent and skipper Coxy. Peters was soon baffling the youngsters with his spin and was soon amongst the wickets as was yours truly taking a 2 wicket maiden in my first over. (Cheap wickets I hear you cry) Paul continued to bowl well ending with 4 for 20 from 6 and myself playing a supporting role from the other end ending with 3 for 11 from overs. Muktajavin 89 All out.

An early finish allowed us to travel the short distance to have a beer and watch the firsts earn a well deserved draw and further underline the spirit, support, friendship and growth this club has been fortunate to witness over the last few seasons.

As I write up this report on Sunday afternoon, having the disappointment of our last game of the season being called of a few hours earlier I would like to thank all of you for your commitment and time in allowing PCC to field 2 teams in League status for the first time in its History. Also a big thank you to Dawn and co for the excellent teas, the support of Tom, Dyll and Matty in the selection process and the rest of the committee for all the work that goes on behind the scenes.

Remember the club dinner is booked for the 4th November at the Bull.
