Drew Withers

Waking up on Sunday morning, slightly bleary eyed with the echos of “dirty old plough” ringing in your ears has to be one of the better feelings in life.

So in to to the game, an enthusiastic and slightly head sore team turned up to a sunny DSG with the promise of some cricket after a rather frustrating July, and then just as both teams arrived the heavens opened and the covers had to go on. That passed quite quickly however and we were ready to go on time, puff won the toss and elected to bat.
8 for 3. Some very tight bowling from a smart opening pair took the wickets of Suri, Logan and Canelo. Max and Sean had some work to do. Max gumpert with A slightly uncharacteristic and gritty 19 from 39 balls helped to steady the ship, this pair put on a 50 run partnership and almost got us to drinks, unfortunately max fell in the over before drinks. In came harry Edmonds making his first team debut it wasn’t the batting debut he had perhaps dreamed of the night before falling to an absolutely ridiculous ball, hollies doing hollies stuff and jagging back about a foot and a half to take his off stump.
Next came a big 92 run batting partnership between Duray and Sean, these 2 batted sensibly scored at the right times (particularly Duray) with some absurd timing of a cricket ball. Mcgurn out for 71 Duray out for 82 and a cameo from Drew Withers including a final ball 6 (which could turn out to be pretty crucial) he did think it was worth 12, I think the boys been playing too much LMS.
224 set, which looked miles away at 65/5 ball one after drinks.
Leo Connolly opened up and got their 1 batsman in the first over, Leo’s 50th wicket for the plough the boy is inevitable. Puff then got “Andre the Giant” with a worldy of a delivery.

Their 3 and 4 then settled in for a bit of a day out, one batting very quickly and the other playing a test match innings. They scored 82 and 36 respectfully before the number 3 was caught off a great piece of bowling by Duray Pretorius.
Some really tight bowling from CRS, Lewis Wilby and Duray in the middle overs started to strangle the Anglos innings. A cracking runout by Suri and Duray dismissed the set bat on 36 with a slightly comical piece of running.
The job was clear from here on in, bowl them out and we did just that Wilby finishing with great figures of 2/41 off his 8 and Puff 4/27 finished off the Anglos Chase with 4 balls and 10 runs to spare.

All in all it was a brilliant team performance with contributions from each and every player on the day. The 1’s stay top, the 1’s plough
