A sweaty Saturday afternoon. The final home game of the season for the 1sts. Two Top 4 teams pushing for a chance at the title and possible promotion to the top division.

A lot of chat was said about this game and it didn’t disappoint. Puff ‘daddy’ snr (Ashish Paul) arrived with his puff jnr (Rohan Paul). A combo consisting of a man with all the tried & true tricks in the bag with one of the best young prospects in today’s school cricket. If that father & son combo wasn’t enough to stand your tastebuds up there were 9 other half decent looking blokes that arrived early and ready that day to make up a very exciting and balanced plough 11.

The oppo arrived with a squadron of supporters that were vocal throughout, very determined to come out on top of this game. Plough to bowl 1st. The oppo showed their intent straight away with a 4 followed directly up by a 6 in the 1st over. We knew this wouldn’t be an easy game. A bit of brilliance from Rohan in the 3rd over with a very unlikely runout from what should’ve been a comfortable single gave the plough a timely strike into the oppo’s batting order.

The opening bowlers puff & Duray then set to work bowling beautifully in tandem taking wickets from each end. After 7 overs the oppo were 34-5. They fought back there on after as expected along with the occasional towering 6 from their batters but the bowling effort from all plough bowlers was up to it.

Along with figures of 3-24 off his 6 overs, Liam ‘Grayzer’ put in a skippers’ performance that was Brendon McCullum-esque. Bowling changes that never let off the pressure and the senior leaders of the team stepping up in support to give their guidance. All 11 of the plough on this day were sharp in the field (a spectacular grab from Drew coming in off the boundary to grab it in between acorns the fielding highlight). Despite the oppo’s resilient effort to get away with a sizeable target they were restricted by regular wickets. The oppo were all out for 163. Wickets from 5 of the 6 bowlers and some tasty fireballs that flew past the bat from Rohan. No wickets from the young man today but he features shortly…

The oppo came out strong and grabbed a couple early wickets before Puff jr played a very mature innnings in tandem with Nicko (Dowell) hammering the ball all round the park. Rohan finished on 41no. Nicko on 37. Plough winning in the 36th over 5 down and shooting straight to the top of table. Special shout out and thanks to the supporters that made it down and special special thanks to AJ Prasad who came down & volunteered his time to beautifully score and sign off scoring on a great day of cricket.
