Within seconds Damon was seen sprinting at full tilt towards the sight screens, hand down his trousers. For a moment, panic. But no — crisis averted. It was just a can of WD40. Good news: the sight screens now move smoother than Greg’s chat on a night out. Bad news: Damon still keeps WD40 in his trousers.
Liam “The Coin Whisperer” wins the toss (looking at you, BCCI) and elects to bowl first. Tom Lebanon and Grayzer open up and immediately find swing, seam, and probably the meaning of life. Within five overs Old Ruts are reduced to 20-4. Nealon chips in with a bullet run-out — the non-striker still hasn’t stopped shaking.
Plough’s fielding was red hot — mainly because we all love a long barrier. Damon and Greg come into the attack, with Damon taking two wickets in an over that Grayzer diplomatically reviewed as: “not a bad over that.” High praise indeed.
Old Ruts stagger to 50-7, desperately needing more runs but Benny and Nealon, the “Spin Twins,” shut that dream down quickly. Old Ruts all out for 76.
Tea inhaled. Cigs consumed. Football scores checked. Yanni and Leon walk out to bat — the master and the apprentice. No prisoners taken. Runs came quicker than Liam to the coin toss. By the time both were out, a brilliant platform was set out
Greg and Nealon continued the carnage, wrapping things up with 8 wickets in hand and plenty of time left for post-match pints.
Shoutouts: Theo for fielding so clean you could eat your sandwiches off it, and Butlin for bringing intensity levels.
Plough win. Old Ruts go home wondering how they got WD40’d, swung, spun, and run out all before tea.
