Arrived too early but had the pleasure of being accompanied from the car park by the beautiful Fred Gumpert and mama Gumpert.
Personal highlight of the day: being told I was good looking by mama Gumpert.
Carson with win at the coin flip.
The cricket got started with a handsome opening pairing of Britto and Gumpert (M). The pair looked solid with a 77 run partnership, Max getting in an early 50. Things looked good until Britto was given LBW on 20.
In walked Umar at 3 fully feeling the effects of the club captain's birthday bash.
The plan was simple push it for singles and get Max on strike. I had the best view watching a Gumpert special.
Showing little respect but playing excellent shots, Max quickly bought up his 100. Followed by a quickfire 150, as someone pointed out it took 23 mins from 100 to 150. Watching the carnage from the other end, this included an over where every ball went to the boundary including a 4 where he walked to the next strip and hit it for 4. Max batted so well that the scorers had to use another line in the score book.
Max finally holed out at mid-off to a decent catch. At the other end I kept ticking over finally reaching 50 with some solicited advice from umpire Britto.
Neiboer looked good but found himself in an unusual spot looking to score some quick runs, ultimately falling to a straight one after some beautiful late cuts.
Rahul came out and was told to hit out but then Umar was caught trying to hit out at mid-on. AGW came out with a couple balls remaining. Plough finishing up on 265.
The teas were an incredible affair with fresh cooked chicken thighs as a main course accompanied by many great treats including some sumptuous cakes.
Stuffed and reluctantly ready to go again, the 11 handsome Plough took to the field with the skipper giving the nod to Giordy. Rick bowled an excellent line and length and struck early with 2 wickets.
Greeney at the end bowled some serious heat, quickest I've ever seen him bowl, without losing any of that wonderful nagging line and length, picking up the other opener.
In came the s&M skipper and joined stalwart Haider who both put on an imperious looking partnership. Things were looking dangerous for the Plough as the partnership grew with late cuts aplenty. That is until the skipper bowled the oppos skipper who probably wasn't expecting the straight one.
Rumford bowled a tidy spell, eventually picking up a bowled. Well deserved, the boy has been bowling well.
Britto was used for an over so that Rumford and Carson could switch ends. Prasad came on to replace Rumford and took the crucial wicket on Haider, who despite having a niggle looked dangerous.
The game ticked on with the Plough picking up regular wicket, one more Giordy, another for Prasad and Rumford apiece.
To avoid a TFC the ball was thrown to Neiboer to launch some grenades in the hopes of getting the last wicket, with no joy, Iqbal was asked to bowl the 39. However both 9 and 10 looked resolute in protecting their wicket until Giordy got his 3rd wicket, Prasad with the grab.
The final over saw tempters from Carson to get that final wicket only to be thumped for the biggest 6 of the day with the last ball hitting the trees 3/4 of the way up looking like it was still on the way up.
Off to the DSG for the team to catch a jug or 2 with the other team. Arriving only to find a forlorn Lonnen frantically searching for his phone. (It was literally where he had been sitting). A quick jug later, all the Plough head off as Southbank were still drinking. A testament to the wild one on Saturday night.
Plough - as I write this, I'm running a hot bath, having demolished a Lahore Kebab House takeaway. I am broken, I am sore, and I am ruined from a double header. But it has been a brilliant weekend with the best cricket club in the world.
Go well on tour.
Plough on!
