Yours truly lost the toss to the groans of the rest of the team.
Once they had finally arrived, Viscount CC brought a large troop of very vocal spectators and we were accompanied by calypso tunes for the entirety of the game.
Calypso cricket was on offer on the field too where their opening partnership was very aggressive. Tidy and Trigger bowled well to contain them at first but with no immediate breakthrough it was looking tough until an excellent spell by Vicky at one end put the pressure on to allow me to take a few wickets at the other (courtesy of some great catching, especially Student at Cow Corner).
Nigel came on to great effect, getting a wicket off his first ball and a second in his second over, but some strong lower order hitting put a par total on a good batting deck of 206 to chase on the board.
However at this point the Cricketing Gods decided to shit all over our hard work in the heat of the day.
We started our innings in a light drizzle, which seemed to grease Joan's wheels. He deposited both the openers over their heads for 6 in a devastating opening stand with James Barron at the other end that put us right ahead.
At this point the drizzle became considerably heavier and the state of the pitch deteriorated considerably. An excellent maiden 50 and lone hand from Barron did nothing to remedy the mixture of ankle high bounce and increasing pressure which led to a collapse we could not recover from.
Still a good day out enjoyed by all. As the only team that got a full game in on the day we had a lot to be thankful for as we supped our post match pints.
PloughOn!
