The Plough players arrived early at the DSG for a pre-match shandy whilst keeping an eye on the Women's Football World Cup final, unfortunately, Pimlico Plumbers (as we hilariously dubbed them) had an emergency call out and were late to the ground.

Skipper Britto "won" the forfeited toss, choosing to bat on the delightful Nursery pitch, and agreed to give Pimlico a plumber’s mate or two so they had at least 10 in the field for the 35 over fixture.

George Boughton and Suri Poleboina opened, with Suri throwing the usual kitchen sink at Pimlico before George was (toilet) bowled for 10. Being a generous chap, George took off his pads and immediately volunteered to field for the oppo.

You probably know where this is going already.

Yep, after only 6 runs in at 3, Robert Keogh piped one up in the air to George at point who eagerly took the catch. Keogh vented "Stopcock" to himself, mad at another septic sewer shot.

After Suri's departure for 28 and the Plough on 69/3 from 14 overs, Max Gumpert and Steve Britto stepped it up - with both batters getting off the mark with large nursery-bothering sixes - and smashed 68 and 50 runs respectively. Their 109 run partnership galvanised the Plough and put the (water) pressure on Pimlico.

For the final overs, Rahul Nair and Benny Cobbett (5*) kept Nick Dowell on strike to be the main outlet swinging the bat like a lead pipe. Nicko siphoned runs across the ground and scored an unbeaten 44 from his 23 deliveries. Welcome back to the boiler room, Nicko.

Ploughmans finished on 231/6 from 35 overs. It felt like a decent score but we've previously seen similar totals chased on the Nursery.

After tea, hydration and use of the sanitary facilities, Itesham Aslam and Lewis Wilby opened the bowling with pace and accuracy keeping the batters on the back foot. Wilby ensured Pimlico couldn't get off to a fast start taking a wicket in his second over. The combination of precise bowling and tight fielding from the start acted as a shut-off valve preventing the Plough from leaking runs.

However, after only 4 of his overs, Sham picked up an elbow joint injury* which meant he was done for the day. He wanted to solder on but he was a busted flush.

What could've been a wrench for skipper Britto was turned into an opportunity by calling upon some bamboozling spin from Benny Cobbett and Max Gumpert. Benny bowled very well picking up our 2 only maidens, a couple of wickets for just 14 runs off his straight through 7 overs. Max was also in the wickets with 2 from just 2 overs and a mere 5 runs conceded.

Josh Kerr, across his two spells, beguiled the oppo with variations in pace, width, height and even depth; by drinks, Pimlico found themselves in a gutter situation standing on 72/5; their current flow rate well behind the required.

Britto knows there are manifold ways to play a Sunday cricket match and he doesn't have to faucet to achieve victory, so he threw the ball to less-well-used bowlers: Nicko, Bob and George. The lack of regular bowling opportunities was very well demonstrated by Nicko who started with a few right armers before deciding he's better with his left. Bob was very pleased to complete one of his overs in the six deliveries.

George however grabbed his chance to shine and took his FIRST WICKET FOR THE PLOUGH. Emotions were running high and there may have been some waterworks in celebrating this from Mr Boughton.

Plunging Pimlico further underwater, Nick, Max and Lewis each fashioned run-outs in the field; Rahul a grab at first slip and even with Britto allowing their opener to bat again as their missing 11th player, Pimlico fell short scoring 196/9 from 35 overs.

The game was played in great spirit with contributions from all around the team. And afterwards, the jugs... the jugs were overflowing :)

* more Sham’s arm than elbow joint, but hey it works
