Having lost the toss Britto was told by the oppo skipper “we’ll let you know” as they both walked off.

Eventually the decision was made for PCC to bat and Tom Ball opened with Britto. The soft in places outfield and the pretty tidy opening bowlers meant scoring runs wasn’t easy at first and both batters plugged away valuing their wicket.

After scoring 37 Britto chastised the scorer for not noticing and led the celebrations for his 11,000th club runs. What an achievement.

83 at drinks turned to 166 at 30 overs as PCC accelerated. Steve eventually fell on 131 runs.

Josh Kerr made his first run for the club and unfortunately Callum Daley pulled his hamstring and had to limp for a few balls before calling for a runner (Bolshaw).

Defending 220 runs Callum managed to field at slip for the first 20 overs until being replaced by Joe, a spectator friend of Josh, who paired a borrowed PCC white top with some fetching duck egg blue shorts.

Spartans’ openers attacked our pace bowlers and it was soon clear that our total may not be enough. We needed wickets and we needed to take catches.

However, April cricket and cold hands meant nothing was sticking for us - except for Michael Scantlebury - and we missed the opportunity to take early wickets and put the pressure on.

Eventually, wickets came for Bolshaw, Greeney, Vignesh and Britto but Spartans chased our score with 10 overs remaining.

They would’ve won sooner if it wasn’t for Hugh Lilburn’s excellent spin death bowling that totally bamboozled everyone. Two maidens in two overs ain’t a bad way to finish.
