Ploughmans batted first on a flat astro under glorious sunshine. Trent and Hussein opened, and played nicely before Trent skied a chance which was taken. Alex and Hussein then gave plough a platform before a superb diving catch resulted in the latter’s wicket. Captain Rehan joined Alex and they upped the rate, before a good catch on the boundary stole Alex of his 50. The drop off his first ball had cost the opposition 47. The score 85-3 off 17. George joined Rehan and played with a certain jenna say qua. A decent partnership resulted before Rehan lollied a catch back to the bowler also for 47. George followed soon after with another stunning catch from the oppo.
Niraj and Bob Keogh rebuilt, before an aggressive end from Simon, Ihtesham and Giordy led plough to 226ish for 8.
Teas included NO SANDWICHES. But plenty of potatoes, pastas, sausages rolls and hope.
That hope turned to sadness when during the warm up Simon’s back went, we were 1 birdie down. Impressively, he ploughed on and fielded superbly through the innings.
Old Hamptonian’s came out to bat and Rehan’s captaincy of opening with a spinner worked immediately, Niraj bowling their bloke for very few. The next batter was a classy boy, scoring plenty and quickly. This brought the pace of Ihtesham on from Niraj’s end who took a double wicket maiden and turned the game in Ploughs favour. The Third wicket partnership saw out Alex W, Giordy and Trent before biggest plough cheerleader Josh Kerr got him caught at drinks. The score 112/4 ish.
The second 20 started well for plough with a few tight overs from George and Trent, but the oppo were ticking along and no wickets fell - even with the return of Giordy and Ihtesham. With 5 overs left, the oppo needed 35. A tight over from Giordy followed, before George’s hope giving wicket brought in their number 7. Alex was then taken for a few, resulting in 12 being required from 2. A few tight wides later amongst an impressive over from Ihtesham, George was asked to defend 4 from the last. Sadly, the first ball went for 4 and the crowd, having swelled following the end of the 1st and 3rd XI games, cheered.
