Ploughmans Friendly XI game at Ripley was abandoned after tea when the weather had the sides in a jam.

Having scored 158 with the bat, Plough were looking to defend the total, but the weather had them going underground.

The wicket had been covered overnight, though on arrival at the strange town a brief power cut had the picturesque clubhouse showing its age.

Hosts Ripley provided an umpire, but he wasn’t needed when Sean McGurn’s half volley was gathered by a Michael Jordan-esque leap on the square.

Overheard from the clubhouse balcony was ‘that’s not a tiddler Graham’ as Michael Ainslie and Tom Elmslie set about building a 71 run partnership.

After a flurry of wickets the news of the world was that local celebrity Paul Weller was walking past the boundary in a green sweater through the town called malice.

Chris McAllister put together a tidy debut, with Carl Viberg, Ean Smith and Mo Khan all playing nice shots to get the score up to 158.

Away from the numbers, Josh Kerr - who once attend a bomb scare in Ripley (not Wardour Street) - managed a not out and the final run of the innings.

Despite the side from in the city being ready to field after Dave Yates was presented with his Plough baggy, Ripley called it a day as conditions worsened.

No result, but an afternoon with the Plough - that’s entertainment.
