Harry Davies wins the toss and ask me if I fancied doing today what I did yesterday? of course I did to some degree minus a certain horrific BBQ of my fellow team mate….sorry rob.
I suspected Harry was bluffing a bit, but he wasn't.
Moving on, we are batting...yeah...but why do i feel so unready for this match against I don’t like cricket….do they not like cricket, or do they love it ?
The oppo bring supporters they set up camp . I hear there were a few generations present father and son and grandson all playing if I am correct, potentially a marvellous family day out.
Ean and Sean step out. Sean takes first ball, no questions asked.
Sean fends of a dangerous looking bouncer and re groups playing some elegant shots on his way to 18 or 20 off as many balls and then to our dismay is bowled attempting a pull shot the ball keeping low.
Ean off the mark a few balls earlier is joined by Michael Ainslie..Ean eager to get runs on the board holes out for just 2 a faint but clear edge carries straight into the keepers mitts
The oppo are bowling well and fielding well keeping the runs tight.
Michael Ainslie keeps out some good-looking bowling before piercing the boundary, but alas, it's not long before ma wee Michael falls after some stubborn resistance.
Nick dowel is in... a few balls later the boundaries are being peppered no singles only boundaries which some how seems a sensible thing to do in this heat.
Like some hazy crazy summer day, suddenly it's the dreaded lbw, and Nicko is back to the pavilion, the oppo reeling with joy....he looked like trouble levers and all.
Then, in comes grant wolledge and steadies the ship, partnering nicely with Michael Scantlebury, who had not played a match for over a year!
The plough stands tall and cheer as Grant brings up his historic 2000th run for ploughman's cc some achievement congratulations Grant.
Michael battles hard in the searing heat running singles finding the gaps and changing strike . These two guys begin to tame the dragon, inducing hope once more, intelligent , responsible, and dependable. Focussed cricket with an unquenchable desire to win and do themselves and the plough proud hats off fellahs.
They both are eventually caught trying to put runs on the board. Grant a few short of 50 (44) and Michael virtually on a Debut after not having played in over a year finishes on 22 against good oppo in testing conditions.
Soon, the skip Harry Davies and secret weapon the master of spin Sandeep are out there harry is of the mark while at the other end Sandeep is handing out some classy batting 3 dots, 4 runs, dot 2 more fours dot six...go on Sandeep!.and he does making an excellent 41 not out!
Harry fell, unfortunately, to a bowler called hyder who came out of his hideout, taking his second wicket.
Mathew Spencer makes a quick fire 15 hitting 2 massive sixes on route before Niraj Tailor comes in to face just one ball and squeezes a tight single..sandeep calls for a second nope says niraj finishing on a red inker.
Ploughman's finish on 214/8 (30 overs)
Teas are nice at the dsg, and we take to the field
The opening batters seem quickly in but are struggling to get any runs from Spence who does a fantastic job in keeping the run rate down with an economy of 3.29.
Giordy bags 2 well-deserved wickets for his hard work.
Niraj Tailor bowls well facing an absolute top quality gun bat.. a special mention to Niraj... also dynamic in the field chasing down every ball and is rewarded for his efforts taking a screamer of a catch that could very well go down as one of the catches of the season.
The skip (Harry) took on said gun bat verbally. Go on, see if you can hit the steeple over there?
What's your worst shot? Reverse sweep, he answers, looking at his bat middle for the umpteenth time. Soon, he would launch a ball that im still amazed ever got found apparently it landed in someone's swimming pool he remains unimpressed and looks at bat again.
Harry brings himself on and finishes with respectable figures.
Nicko and sandeep also bowled well, trying to get that breakthrough.
It could have been a different game on a different day with a few missed opportunities, and half chances in the field tides of fortune may very well of swung our way.
It seemed a day when everything we threw at them just did not quite go our way. The oppos top 3 batsmen all retiring on 50s the damage was done but credit to the oppo.
Sometimes, we learn more in defeat than we do in victory.
I don’t like Cricket cc win 215 (25.3 overs)
Once again, congratulations to Grant Wolledge on achieving his 2000th run for the Mighty Plough... incredible.
We share a few bevies and laughs with the oppo and each other and cheer on our other plough side as Suri hits at least 2 balls into the sight screen behind his wicket causing the keeper to run for cover...scenes! Theo ever dynamite in the field takes a blinding catch and Carl Viberg on his second stint this weekend all the way from Sweden massive respect. It was a memorable and historic day.. until we ride again plough on.
