Even though we arrived an hour before Start time the Plough were surprised to see Weybridge full warm up in flow with laps medicine balls and extensive stretching, it felt like they were preparing for a four day test match. We in contrast were wondering the bar would open so we could have a quick pre print.
Toss Time and even though we were still waiting on a couple player Captain Gumpert won toss and put them in, the message was clear early wickets and that they must be knackared from their 3 hour pre game warm up. Their opening batsmen looked handy but we opened with Ritik and Debutant Sherry “The Sherrif” who kept them both honest. Ritik was bowling some real heat and with the overcast conditions we got the breakthrough an inside edge smartly caught low to his lift by WK AGW. The next Ritik followed quickly with the batsmen having hit a 6 and AGW asking him to do it again next ball he obliged missed it and was bowled by Ritik.
Both Openers out and Weybridge on about 60-2 , Aman came into Bowling attack with skillfull crafty spin bowler Tunnacliffe both reducing their strike rate and putting pressure on. Unfortunately Aman cut his hand diving to stop 4 with a deep gash and was taken to the local A&E by the oppo, (hopefully speedy recovery and will be back playing ASAP). The enforced a bowling change and up step with Captain Max with some crafty bowling to get 2 quick wickets , 1 great catch by Tunnaclife and another by AGW and we make it to drinks with 4 wickets. After well desereved drinks we keep the pressure great fielding all round and some tidy bowling continued by Benny and Niraj, we reduce them to 170-7 by around 33th Over. This ended up being pivotal point of their innings their left handed batsmen was solid and reached 50 and they pushed on as we finally bowled them all out for 239 some quick fire wickets by Niraj who got a 3 for. Special thanks to their sub fielders who took 2 catches for us and in general fielded brilliantly to held
After a Wonderful Tea of Chicken Breast , garlic bread and Pasta the ploughmans get their batting effort under way. Needing the 240 win exactly 6 an over and the conditions getting gloomier and more overcast the captains message was stay in bat the 40 overs and lets see where we are by 30th over then give it a bash. Opening batsmen Mcgurn and Hockings took to the task. We lost Sean early and in came Bharat who played some nice shots will Hockings held the other end. The bowling was accurate and after quickfire 18 Bharat was back in the Pavilion. Hockings and Tunnacliffe batted brilliantly to stay in and keep their bowlers frustrated.
It was tough to get any quick singles and rotate strike as their team average age was 21. Tunnacliffe got a very good ball and Hockings unfortunately had to retire hurt so in came Captain Max and Benny. Benny was soon back in the Pav and ploughmans were on 90-4 on around 23 overs AGW came in and after some erratic early shots stayed in with Captain Max for the next 13 overs and some powerful hitting by Max quickly got him to his 50 (excellent batting) and with AGW hitting a few their bowlers started getting visibly frustrated. They brought a couple of their opening bowlers back and duly AGW was out for 18 up step Sherry on debut and hit a very good 13 in the last 3 overs of game while Max got to 75 and Ploughmans ended on 180-6 batting out the 40 overs, in the end a 59 run lose but showed some tough grit and fielded well against a very good team.
After the game we shared some well-deserved beverages with the Oppo who were nice lads and some good cricketers, hopefully we get to play them again. A shout out to the neutral umpire who umpired well.
