On what could only be described as a sponge-cake of a batting deck, runs were there to be had for those prepared to apply themselves, even if fortune didn’t always smile our way and we never quite got the rub of the green.

After electing to bat post coin toss, the top order faced a disciplined and well-led opposition attack. The oppo were marshalled superbly by their skipper, an outstanding bowler who seemed to have everything going for them on the day. Already well known in YouTube PT circles and clearly someone who wouldn’t look out of place in a magazine or calendar (best left to individual imaginations), they combined sharp tactical awareness with genuine quality, making momentum hard to come by.

Despite this, there were some real positives with the bat. On debut, Benjamin and Tony stood out with composed and confident contributions, showing excellent temperament and a willingness to take the game on when opportunities arose. Both looked right at home at this level and bode very well for the future.

Defending our total, spirits remained high, even when WHCC went full Bazball in their chase, racing along with all ten wickets in hand. Credit must go to our skipper, who rallied the side admirably, kept standards high in the field, and ensured the contest was fought right to the end, regardless of the scoreboard pressure.

Ultimately, it was one of those days where the opposition executed better in key moments, but the effort and intent from our side never wavered.

A massive thank you to WHCC for their sincere hospitality and for providing an outstanding quality of cricket throughout the day. It was played in the right spirit and was a pleasure to be part of.
